LECTURE ABSTRACT:

This session will present an overview of runway safety covering the occurrence relating to RUNWAY INCURSION and RUNWAY EXCURSION, highlighting the global action plans evolved including practices, procedures and techniques currently employed or being developed in collaboration with the States, industry, and international organizations to prevent high-risk runway flight safety occurrences.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Zahid Hussain Khan is a veteran, having 48 years of aviation experience in the provision, oversight, teaching, and management of Air traffic services. He stepped into the field of aviation back in 1974 as an aerodrome controller at Karachi international airport. Subsequently, he acquired ratings in aerodrome control, en route control, and the terminal approach control procedural and radar. He was assigned airport management and regulatory positions with multifarious tasks pertaining to State obligations. He was also associated with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on a project relating to the Co-operative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Program for South Asia (COSCAP-SA) as Regional Air Traffic Services Safety expert (RATSSE). Lately, he had been a visiting instructor at PAF – KIET and instructor and course developer at Pakistan Civil Aviation Training Institute (CATI).
